Several imaging platforms are available for macro level luminescence or fluorescence imaging in whole small animals (e.g., mice), plants and other organisms. Whole animal and plant bioluminescence (eg. from luciferase expression) tends to be more quantifiable and more sensitive. Whole animal fluorescence (eg. GFPs) is faster and offers more flexibility in colors and applications. These imaging procedures can be totally non-invasive. A Xenogen IVIS-200 for luminescence and an Olympus OV-100 for fluorescence are available through Biomedical Sciences in the Veterinary School (contact). A custom-built luminescence imaging box is available in the BRC Vivo Imaging Suite (VIS, contact).
