Funding Opportunities

The Institute for Biotechnology and Life Science Technologies administers two funding mechanisms. Both are available to Cornell faculty and senior researchers.

CAT Awards: The Institute has been administering CAT awards through the Center for Life Science Enterprise for over 23 years. Multi-investigator proposals between scientists in different disciplines and between faculty in the Medical College and the Ithaca/Geneva campuses are especially encouraged. Priority will be given to those applications that involve a genuine collaboration with New York industry and which will have potential significant impact on the economic development in New York. The maximum dollar amount of CAT matching funds for a single investigator project is $50,000 per year. NYSTAR does not consider "in kind" cost sharing as a qualifying match.

Innovation Awards: The Institute will offer Innovation awards for NOVEL IDEAS. Although the proposed work may be related to your long term research interests, it must not duplicate existing funded projects, or those for which you have requested funding. We are looking for new ideas, knowledge, products, and processes that ultimately link social benefits and economic development. Industrial sponsorship is not a requirement.
