10X Genomics Service Guidelines and Policies
The Cornell BRC Genomics Facility offers full-service runs of 10x Genomics Chromium assays on single cell or single nucleus suspensions that are prepared by users and 10x Genomics Visium Cytoassist assays on sample slides that are prepared by users.
- Please, review the user guide and product support materials for the assay you wish run: https://www.10xgenomics.com/support
- Single cell and spatial experiments are not fail-proof. Sample input quality is the biggest factor in obtaining quality data. Please, review the cell preparation guide from 10x for single cell sample requirements and the appropriate tissue preparation handbook for spatial assays. We strongly recommend running pilots and can help advise you on their design.
- Failures can occur on 10x instruments. If your samples pass our Sample QC, you will not be charged for samples that fail, however, there is a risk of sample loss. Extra safety measures are sometimes possible to arrange for irreplaceable samples if requested in advance.
- We assess sample quality at several stages and will contact you if issues are detected. Sample QC is done at delivery with the user present. Immediate decisions may be required. Users are expected to be available by phone for the remainder of their experiment day in case issues arise with their samples.
- First-time users must meet with us prior to scheduling their experiment.
- For single cell experiments, cell recovery normally varies ~20% from target. Some samples are difficult to count and may have greater variability in targeting.
- If you have purchased your own 10x kits for an experiment, please note:
- Kits have a limited shelf life – expiration dates are listed on the packing slip.
- Each component must be stored at its appropriate storage temperature.
- We will continue to hold kits for up to 3 months after they expire. At that point we will automatically discard them.
- It is your responsibility to pick up your kits; you can do so at any time.
