The Union Biometrica BioSorter offers a unique platform for sorting and analysis of large biological particles. Applications include analysis of live multicellular organisms, large cell clusters, as well as plant protoplasts and pollen. The BioSorter operates at very low sample pressures (1.5psi) and implements air-jet based droplet sorting for gentle sorting of organisms and cells. The BRC Flow Core BioSorter is configured with a 500um flow cell (“FOCA”)* which is best suited for 40-300um sized objects. This makes the instrument suitable for processing of samples including drosophila embryos, C. elegans larvae, plant protoplasts, pollen, as well as mammalian adipocytes, and stem cell aggregates. The Flow Core’s BioSorter is currently equipped with a single 488nm laser. Objects may be analyzed and sorted based on size (axial length), optical density, and 3 fluorescent channels. Sample are loaded in 50ml conicals. An X-Y stage allows sorting to multi-well plates or tubes. *Other FOCA assemblies from 250um to 1500um are available from Union Biometrica – although rather expensive.
